First time in LA + a Patreon Dinner Party!

Hey all - I know I said I was gonna get back on the regs with the blogging - and I didn't.  But I like, mean it this time.  Tell you what, I'll just continue to blog whenever something, you know, happens.

I spent this past week in LA for the first time!  Folks told me I'd either love it or hate it, and I'm proud to say that I fall firmly in the former category.  To the point where I'm very seriously thinking that 2018 will be the year of West-Coast-Babish.  So look out...

Well that's the last time I make risotto in a wok over an open fire

You heard me right.  This week, I'm taking my first stab at foods from vidya games - a few of the many dishes seen in Zelda: Breath of the Wild.  And, in the interest of accuracy, I prepared the majority of them in a giant steel wok over a roaring fire.  It was hot, it was messy, and it actually turned out pretty good - but I certainly won't be doing it again.

First there was the matter of recreating the cooking rig seen in the game...

Hello everyone - welcome to my continuing effort to post to the blog with greater regularity!

This week I’m pleased as punch to have just received a semi-city-safe electric smoker which, upon receiving, immediately prompted a trip to the grocery store to seek out smoke-worthy meats.  While shooting a Patreon garlic-peeler-exclusive, I put the contraption to good use with a dozen wings, a rack of babyback ribs, and a coil of sausage.  In the end, this surprisingly reasonable investment...
